How the Brown/MIT Prof Was Identified
See the affidavits from the investigators themselves here.
By now, you’ve heard that a task force consisting of Providence Police, the FBI, the ATF, and the US Marshals found the Brown shooter in New Hampshire, but only after he had committed suicide.
It appears that the key piece of the puzzle came from a Reddit post:
I’ll let you read for yourselves how the investigation unfolded directly from the Providence Police (HERE) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (HERE).
It appears that the killer, Claudio Neves-Valente, attended university in Portugal with the MIT professor, Nuno Loureiro, who was murdered in his home in Brookline.
Now that phase one—capturing the killer—is over, phase two begins: why did Neves-Valente attack innocent students at Brown University and then a man with whom he attended school a quarter-century ago?

Apologies for typo in the title. Speed is the enemy of accuracy.

was this telling bit "Neves Valente was let go from a position at the Lisbon university, according to an archive of a termination notice..."
I think he held some deep seated resentment against Brown and Loureiro for some sort of failings in his life. As of this writing, I've not seen any description of the NV's work or family life. Definitely some sort of psychological defect, contaminated thinking led him to these horrific acts.
